“Celebrating IU Southeast”

Gloria Murphy, Dean of Education:

“I would describe it as a very supportive sort of culture that, we’re still small enough that, generally you’re going to be able to connect with a professor, with a faculty member, or a staff member, for that matter.”

Kathy Ernstberger, business professor:

“We also have the support of the technology infrastructure of a major state university. We have a library system that’s really unmatched. It’s just one of those wonderful symbiotic relationships where we’re small but have the advantages of being big.”

Joe Glover, student:

“It’s really the people, I think, at Indiana University that really make this place so special. I know that people talk about that a lot, but from the faculty to the administration, to the students that make up the university, it’s really a unique atmosphere. If you haven’t experienced the people and been able to work with them one-on-one, I think you’d have a hard time realizing how special they are to Indiana University.”

“Celebrating IU Northwest”

Dorothy Ige, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences:

“In regard to celebrating IU, of course the arts are a love of mine. They’re in my area in the College of Arts and Sciences. It is art that tells stories. It tells about our history. It is beautiful, it is pleasing, it is meaningful. So all of the arts, whether it’s music, fine or performing arts, those things are very important. I am happy that is part of the celebration.”

Paulette Johnson, Director of Alumni Relations:

“If I were describing Indiana University Northwest to outsiders, to individuals in the community, I would tell them, we will take you where you are and get you to be where you want to be. There are enough people and resources here that will work with you, that will provide you the opportunities and experiences you want, the leadership that you’re looking to acquire. And when you leave this place you will be ready to get out there in the workforce and be a different person.”

“Celebrating IU Kokomo”

Cindy Heigl, student:

“Every class I go to, like my business law class, when I got done with it, I wanted to be a lawyer. And then my business finance class, when I got done with it, I wanted to be a financial advisor. And with my marketing class, I wanted to do marketing. So it’s like every class just really inspires me.”

Walter Brown, D.D.S., local businessman/alumnus:

“I’ve always been very proud of the education at IU at Kokomo because I always felt that it was as good as it gets. I knew Kokomo and IU Bloomington are two of the best institutions in the country. I’m very proud to have graduated from here.”

Cathy Hightower, Director of Alumni Relations and Public Affairs:

“I also speak at our high school visit days to students. And I graduated from here in 1989, as I said, but I also have a master’s degree in higher education on the Bloomington campus. And I take my two diplomas with me with I speak to those high school students, and I say, tell me the difference, and they can’t. Because they’re both Indiana University degrees. And I stress that heavily.”

“Celebrating IU South Bend”

Kimberly Muncie, student:

“I know that even after I graduate and I go into the workforce, I know I’ll be an active alumna as well, looking forward to coming back because I want to see the next generation of students be as involved as I am. Because not only has it been a great experience for me, but hopefully I’ve inspired others to be equally as involved.”

Michael Renfrow, admissions counselor:

“The reason I celebrate IU is because it’s given my family a chance to succeed. My wife was the first student in her family to go to college. My father did go to college, but he was a minister. Finances and things didn’t make college a real viable option. IU has offered my family a chance for success and an exciting future that I can’t wait to participate in.”

“Celebrating IU East”

Rebeckah Snoddy, Director of Campus Life:

“I’ve been at IU East. It was flexible because I could choose class times whenever it worked with my life, my schedule, my work. The class times and professors were another great advantage of being a student here.”

Natasha Hamilton, student:

“It’s more like a friendly environment here. The people actually want to talk to you rather than just see you once a day and give you an assignment. They actually come up to you and talk and say, how’s it going other than school? How’s your personal life going? ”

“Celebrating IUPUI”

Kaitlyn Christopher, student:

“I think IUPUI is great. Obviously, you get a good mix of Purdue students and IU students all in one place, which is really neat. But I think my favorite part is that we have three hospitals on campus. And for me, because I want to go to medical school, that’s really important. We have Riley and Wishard, and Indiana University hospitals. It’s awesome. You get to see and do so much and there’s so much opportunity, especially for people in my major that want to see and do more and research in the medical field.”

Angelo Smith, student:

“I emphasize the urban setting and being in downtown Indy. I have a lot of friends who still go to school in the Midwest but a lot of their universities are closed in, but here at IUPUI, we have a campus feel, but as soon as you’re off campus you’re in downtown Indy.”

Brenda Bishop, Director of External Affairs, School of Science:

“There are nearly 30,000 undergraduate and graduate students, and that includes students who are pursuing professional degrees in the schools of medicine, dentistry, and law. And what’s great about a student body of 30,000 students is that you’ve got so much diversity, different ethnicities, races, ages. It’s really an incredible opportunity for students to learn, not only from terrific faculty, but certainly from one another.”

“Celebrating IU Bloomington”

Melanie Castillo-Cullather, Director, Asian Culture Center:

“When we ask the students, especially students from the east coast and the west coast, why they chose to come to Indiana University, the first thing they say is that this place is just magnificent. It’s just so beautiful, and they would even describe it as something like, you know, you get out of the plane and you drive for 45 minutes. And then you discover this beautiful oasis tucked in the corner that is Indiana University Bloomington. ”

Roger Thompson, Vice Provost for Enrollment Management:

“Why am I passionate about IU? I could go on and on and on. We have great leaders in every part of our university. We have tremendous alumni support. Our students are active and engaged. And we’re on one of the most beautiful college campuses in the world…with the quintessential college town right here next to us. So all of that, I think, creates a very special place. ”

George Pinney, Professor of Stage Movement, Head of Musical Theatre:

“If Herman Wells long ago felt that to be in an educational environment you have to be enriched and inspired by that environment and truly, this campus does it from top to bottom.”
