Philanthropy

The IU community is engaged in civic activities and helping people in need throughout the state of Indiana and beyond. During Celebrate IU 2009, Hoosier students, alumni, faculty, and staff will participate in many philanthropic and civic events such as the Jill Behrman 5k Run, IUPUI’s United Way Day of Caring, the IU Blood Donor Challenge, and Hoosiers Outrun Cancer.

  1. The October 24 Jill Behrman 5k Run, sponsored by Campus Recreational Sports at IU Bloomington, benefits the Jill Behrman Emerging Leader Scholarship and Jill’s House.
  2. Help save lives and reach the goal of 5,000 units donated during the 13th Annual IU Blood Donor Challenge October 1 through November 13.
  3. Indiana’s largest 5k race, Hoosiers Outrun Cancer, sponsored by the Bloomington Hospital Foundation and Indiana University Athletics, will celebrate its tenth anniversary on September 26. The event has raised more than $1.3 million dollars for the Olcott Center for Cancer Education at Bloomington Hospital.
  4. At the IUPUI United Way Day of Caring on October 2, teams of faculty, staff, and students will perform a day of community service throughout Indianapolis as a way to kick off the IUPUI United Way campaign.
  5. Want to strip down for charity? The United Way of Monroe County is hosting another “Nearly Naked Mile” on October 12. The clothes off your back will be used as your entry fee. The only catch: you must be wearing at least a swim suit by the end of your donation!
